I did a live moth event on Zoom at 8am. Climbed up on the roof and opened the trap - a bit wobbly while holding my camera phone, watching the feed for questions and talking at the same time!
This has given me a chance to start public events rather gently. It is not what we planned, which was to be a showing of ‘Towards Light’ at Bell House in Dulwich, followed by a live moth trap opening in the garden, and then a tree walk looking to link the moths with their nearby food plants. But - plenty of time to plan for next year…
Wonderfully, there was a beautiful fresh (female I think) Lime Hawk-moth in the new Skinner trap, and some other interesting specimens including a White Ermine.
I talked about ‘fishing in the night sky’, about how going up on the roof was my way as a garden-less Londoner to find a different space, and how communing with moths had transformed my view of the ‘creative. urge’, from textiles to ecology.
